This weeks article was to focus on Elaina, for offering Farmer's Market shoppers organic whole grain white and brown rice; dragging those heavy sacks back and forth, every week for over a year, so that her customers could have access to organic rice; and the fact that the rice is Certified Organic and grown in Costa Rica.
But alas, the bad news overshadows the good. The company that grows the rice has announced that there is no more in storage and the new harvest, although growing quite well, will not be ready until May, "God willing". They added that the reason they ran out is because of record sales. It is then safe to say, that, in of itself, is good news.
For those that stocked up on the rice may have it until the next harvest. For the rest, it is suggested to take advantage of some of the other organic products offered at Elaina's stand and so many others at the Market each week. As more organic products are consumed, more demand is created, and therefore is generally followed by an increase in supply. Be sure to ask for organics and when found, share it on the pages of Costa Rica South, especially in the Classified or Biz Directory sections.
Humans cannot live on rice alone even if it is organic. Elaina offers many other quality products made by local artisans who use natural, organic ingredients when available. Look and see and sample so many fine foods such as, a variety of gluten free brownies, raw crackers, cookies and chocolates, nuts and seeds, honey, coconut oil, jams and jellies, organic spices and herbal medicines, cacoa power, Samaritan Xocolata, herbed goat and fine swiss cheeses and so much more.
As the little kernels of life are growing so do we expand from our life experience. It may be true that we are what we eat, but more importantly, we are what we think. That's the best news of all. |
